Our Medical Assisting diploma program provides students with the skills necessary to be responsible for a range of high-level front- and back-office functions. Medical assistants' responsibilities range from front office work such as appointment setting, telephone usage, insurance billing and coding, and transcribing physician notes, to back office tasks such as assisting in taking vital signs, EKGs, assisting in minor office surgery, phlebotomy and other duties associated with assisting medical professionals.
Medical Assisting students will also be equipped with a broad background in computers, as well as organizational and communication skills. As a Medical Assisting student, you can get hands-on experience by participating in an externship in your final quarter of study. Externships provide an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a professional medical environment.
Because Ohio Institute of Health Careers is accredited by CAAHEP, our Medical Assisting graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistants Examination administered by the AAMA. This certification is preferred by employers because it demonstrates the knowledge and commitment that a medical assistant possesses.
